Your baby is one of your most cherished gifts and should be taken great care of. Your baby deserves the best in every way which is why you should look into the advantages that organic cotton has over conventional cotton. Let's delve into the differences between the two.

Only one other crop in the world has more pesticides used on it than the cotton crop farmed with conventional techniques. Coffee is the only crop that has more used on it. Conventional cotton has large amounts of pesticides and herbicides sprayed on it and even after harvest, it has chlorine bleach used on it to make it white. Lastly, formaldehyde is used on it as a finisher. Curious as to how much is used on it? Well for just a single t-shirt, about a third of a pound of chemicals is used during the process of making it. So conventional cotton can be harmful not only to the environment, but also to those who wear it.

In total contrast to conventional cotton is the organic cotton method. Chemicals are not used anywhere in the process. The land is fertilized naturally with compost and weeds are kept out by hand or machines. Predatory pests are kept under control using insects that prey on them. Being labeled as organic means that the soil has to be pesticide free for three years in a row.

Even after the process of making the fiber does organic cotton have benefits. The fibers of organic cotton breathe easier and so it is more comfortable to wear as it allows moisture to evaporate. Bedding and clothing for babies that are made with conventional cotton can trap moisture against your baby's skin and cause a rash. Babies with sensitive skin will benefit a lot from organic cotton.

Organic cotton is also much more durable than conventional cotton. Its fibers are not weakened by any chemicals like what happens during the conventional cotton process.

Many places that carry baby clothes now offer a selection of organic cotton clothing. The popularity of organic cotton is growing and as it does, more and more stores will carry it. But, if you do not have any baby stores in your area that carry organic cotton baby clothing, then Friendly Cottons is a great place to find what you are looking for.

Parents always want what is best for their newborns. What you choose to dress your baby in is a big part of that. Take into consideration organic cotton when choosing clothing. Not only will you help your child feel more comfortable, but you will be helping the environment too!
