The basement of any home can be converted into something more than just an oversized closet with just a few good basement decorating tips. If you really do it up nice, it can add a new dimension to your house! While it's true, not everyone will want to hang in a dark basement, this can actually work in the rooms favor for particular styles of rooms. Here's some ideas on how you can transform your basement from dull to dreamy.

With just a little bit of work, your basement can be the perfect music or home theater room. The big thing here is that you want to be sure to acoustically line the room to keep the sound in. This assures total sound quality in a closed room. However, basements are prone to air moisture, which may damage your electronic equipment, so you should buy an air dehumidifier to keep the atmosphere in the basement dry.

Game room - perfect for the basement! Lots of people are putting ping pong tables, pool table and other game tables into their basements today. Plus you make a lot more noise in the basement without bothering the neighbors. You can really add some zip to the place too by painting the floor and walls and adding in some good lighting.

You can incorporate a home gym into your basement for very little cost. Since most basements sport unadorned concrete floors and walls, the presence of a home gym system and free weights won't really hurt the room much. For softer footing, you can use rubber mats on the floor and place mirrors to line the walls, and you're all set! One thing you want to be sure of, though, is that you have good ventilation so that your getting healthy air during your workout.

Workshop - this is another basement decorating idea that is simple and easy. Instead of the classic garage set workbench, some handy men have taken to transferring their benches and power tools to the basement. Depending on what you work on, you might need to make the door bigger to fit and if your tools are very loud you might consider acoustic lining.

You can spend a lot of money decorating your basement, or you can only spend a little. However, like with anything else in the home decorating area, the more you spend, both in time and money, the better the outcome!
